Honda today took the wraps off a sleek, sophisticated and innovative new 2018 Odyssey minivan, launching at dealerships nationwide this spring. Already the most popular minivan with individual American car buyers for seven years running, the next-generation Odyssey brings a host of new features and technologies for 2018, including a uniquely versatile new Magic Slide™ second-row seat; new CabinWatch and CabinTalk technologies; new Display Audio touchscreen with Honda-developed OS; 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity; new Rear Entertainment System with streaming video; and Honda Sensing™ safety and driver-assistive technologies, now offered standard on EX and above trims.

“This new Odyssey raises the stakes for family-friendly packaging, performance and technology in the minivan segment,” said John Mendel, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “In all aspects of its design, the new Odyssey is made to keep every member of the family happy, no matter the seating position, no matter the destination.”

Sophisticated and Family-Friendly Design

The Odyssey’s sophisticated and modern new styling adopts Honda’s signature flying wing front grille flanked by available LED front headlights. The bold and sporty front fascia also conceals a new Active Shutter Grille for improved fuel efficiency when cruising. The Odyssey’s signature lightning bolt beltline now provides an even more elegant design element with the sliding door tracks hidden in the lower portion of the rear quarter windows. At the rear there are LED taillights and an available new hands-free power tailgate with foot activation.

Inside, the new Odyssey features high-grade materials including a soft-touch instrument panel. The driver’s meter features a new 7-inch, full-color TFT display, and in the center of the dash there is an available 8-inch high-resolution Display Audio touchscreen interface (EX and above). In upper grades, stain-resistant leather first- and second-row seating surfaces and door trim and black carpeting and black seatbelts are designed to conceal stains, while a new grooveless tambour lid on the spacious and versatile center console resists the accumulation of crumbs and debris.

In-vehicle Connectivity

In-vehicle connectivity is taken to a whole new “family connectivity” concept. Old-fashioned family connectivity – sometimes called a conversation – is made easier than ever with the quietest cabin in the class, and is augmented with a multitude of new connected-vehicle features and technologies, including:

New Display Audio – featuring a new Honda-developed operating system, more intuitive menus and customizable app tiles, this 8-inch high-resolution (720P) touchscreen interface serves as the nerve center for a multitude of new audio and telematics options, including Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility, and adds a physical volume knob for improved usability.System updates – users can download available updates to the Display Audio operating system and rear entertainment system at their convenience via 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, or USB.CabinWatch – using a camera, CabinWatch lets the driver and front passenger keep tabs on passengers both day and night via the 8-inch Display Audio screen.CabinTalk – enables the driver to talk to second – and third-row passengers though the second-and third-row speakers and rear entertainment system headphones.Connected Rear Entertainment System – second- and third-row passengers can enjoy streaming video on the ceiling-mounted, 10.2-inch WSVGA Rear Entertainment System, including PBS Kids, iHeart Radio, Spotify and more, through the available in-vehicle 4G LTE Wi-Fi, public Wi-Fi or user’s cellphone data plan. A new “How Much Farther?” app lets passengers track the family’s trip progress.CabinControl – using a downloadable app, users can use a smart phone to control the rear entertainment system, rear cabin heat and air conditioning, and send destinations to the embedded Honda navigation system.Social Play List – part of CabinControl, Social Playlist operates like a virtual jukebox, allowing up to seven family members to upload their music choices to the audio system via their smartphones.Read More Full Review

2018 Honda Odyssey Redesign Specs Price

2018 Honda Odyssey – Updated and Refreshed ! Although nowadays many choose to buy an SUV or a crossover as their family car, there are folks who won’t let go of minivans. Honda was clearly thinking about them, which is why it introduced the new Odyssey at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.

Design – Interior & Exterior of new Honda Odyssey 2018

The new cabin features many updates and is quieter, more technologically equipped and practical. In fact, the new cabin is so silent that Honda claims it is the quietest in the class. The 2018 Odyssey features a standard noise cancellation system, triple door seals, increased sound deadening and optional acoustic front and side glass.

An 8-inch touchscreen combined with a volume knob is responsible for the info display and audio system which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A rear entertainment system can be used to stream a video either through a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection or any other Wi-Fi source.

Using the new CabinControl app and their phones, passengers may decide what they want to watch on the rear display. They may also adjust rear end climate, upload music and access Odyssey’s navigation system to set destinations.

Cameras cover the second and third row of seats and send a live feed to the frontal CabinWatch system. Another possibility is the CabinTalk system which enables speaking through rear speakers and headphones that are connected to the entertainment system.

Now there are four different seating configurations thanks to Magic Slide system. Both Separation and Buddy mode have the center seat out, but instead of rearranging captain’s seats at the outer positions (Separation), Buddy mode places the captain’s seats in the center together.  Easy Access mode sets the second-row of seats behind the driver in the middle and forward, whereas a version of Easy Access named “Super mode” has the seatback moved forward so the front passengers can clearly see the third-row passengers that are in most cases kids.

2018 Honda Odyssey Safety

When it comes to safety, fans will be glad to know that automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, land departure warning, lane keeping assist and parking sensors are offered in the 2018 Odyssey.

2018 Honda Odyssey Specs

The new model will run on a new 3.5-liter, direct injection V6 engine with cylinder deactivation. The 2018 vehicle has 280 hp in total (32 hp increase). The base model will have a nine-speed automatic gearbox, while the higher trim levels will feature 10-speed automatic.

Honda used more high-strength steel, aluminum, and magnesium to build a new chassis and body structure which provide the Odyssey with better handling as well as speed. 2018 version will be 96 pounds lighter and will have an increase in body rigidity by 44 percent. The power steering system is improved along with a new rear suspension.

What about PRICE of new Honda Odyssey?

The 2018 Honda Odyssey will go head to head with Chrysler Pacifica, Kia Sedona and Toyota Sienna and is expected to hit the showrooms this spring. We do not know how much it will cost, but the price should resemble the one that the outgoing model has $29,850.

2018 Honda Odyssey Update: 12/23/16

With cars like the all new Pacifica and Sedona, the current model of the Odyssey is not exactly up to date. It looks old; it drives like an old car, and it simply is not as powerful as the competition. Not that long ago a test mule of the car has been spied testing and wearing heavy camouflage. Even though Honda did not say much about it, rumors suggest that the car is closer to release than we thought. In fact, we expect the upcoming 2018 Honda Odyssey to be launched by the end of the year and go into production sometime in the mid of 2017. Its price should not be affected by the big change meaning that the car will still start around $30,000 so that it remains one of the best options in the segment.

This winter many automakers decided to launch their new minivans and Honda is one of them. The Japanese automaker will introduce the fifth-generation Odyssey people mover at the Detroit Auto Show that is scheduled for January 2017. Less than a month ago Chrysler introduced its new Pacifica minivan, and we can’t wait to see which of these arch-rivals will outperform and outscore the other.

On December 19th, Honda posted an official teaser image of the 2018 Odyssey carefully hiding many exterior features. Nevertheless, some new options are visible, one of which is the vehicle’s rearmost roof pillar that is quite different from what we usually see on a minivan. So far, Honda always made an effort to emphasize narrow roof pillars and large windows in order to gain maximum visibility. This is not the case with the new Odyssey that has a massive rear roof pillar.

Other than that, no additional news related to the new Odyssey came out, and we can only speculate about the features of the new minivan. The 2018 model is expected to run on the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired up with a 9-speed automatic transmission that the Honda Pilot already uses. Also, we are certain that there will be a hybrid version, but we still do not know if Honda plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid that will be able to work only on electricity before firing the gas engine like Chrysler did.

The 2018 Honda Odyssey will almost certainly feature a more versatile interior than the outgoing model. The second row of seats that can be moved while a child seat is attached to them would be nice if you ask me. This maneuver is only doable in the Pacifica when it comes to this segment.

The 2018 Odyssey will be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show on January 9th, and we are looking forward to analyzing it thoroughly.

One of the largest upgrades from the previous model will be the platform. The new Odyssey is going to use the same platform that underpins the new Honda Pilot or Ridgeline. Currently used one is made out of high-strength steel while the new Odyssey is also going to use a lot more aluminum. This should allow the car to be with up to 500 pounds lighter than before while remaining and even improving stiffness and safety level. Also, the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) will be reduced considerably while the car’s lower weight should make it better to drive, more efficient and more comfortable.

Interior – New 2018 Honda Odyssey looks GREAT!!

The model that has been spied a while ago is a Honda and not an Acura. Why are we saying this? Well, it features a new interior with a lot of Honda badges and on top of that, it looks like a minivan. The car seems to be slightly longer than before and also wider. However, it doesn’t appear to be any taller. The new platform which it will share with the Pilot also means that the car might get a lower floor. This will allow for more passenger space, a bigger trunk and likely a better layout of the interior.

2016 Honda Odyssey shown; Source:

As we said above, the car’s interior is going to change and improve quite drastically. The upcoming 2018 Honda Odyssey is going to feature an all-new design. The dashboard will get rid of the rather old looking center stack and instead, it will now look a lot more like a premium sedan. This will feature a slightly narrower center stack with fewer buttons. Furthermore, the gear selector seems to have been moved from the center stack and replaced by Honda with either a push-button selector or even a column mounted one in which case it would make it easier to use. The trunk-mounted vacuum cleaner which everyone loved is going to make a return.

2018 Honda Odyssey Engine – Best of the BEST

The rumored 2018 Honda Odyssey is said to feature still a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6. This is a bit more different than what many people said that Honda would go for a turbocharged engine. The new V6 would be the same unit that can be found in the Pilot or the new Ridgeline. However, it is expected to be tweaked for use in the minivan which can to be slightly less powerful, and usually, it has to tow less as well. We do expect the engine to make around 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque in the new Odyssey. This would be substantially more than before and with the help of direct injection and also a new transmission it should offer far better results.

2018 Honda Odyssey spy photo; Source:

That’s right; the old six-speed unit is finally going to be replaced. However, at this point, there are no clear details about its successor. Some said that a CVT gearbox might be installed in the car. Honda’s nine-speed automatic, which is made by ZF, would also be a good choice. In any case, we do hope that an all-wheel-drive version of the car is going to be released. This would certainly appeal to some people, and it would make the Odyssey great for any environment and road condition.

Honda Odyssey VS BMW X5Honda Odyssey 2018 VS BMW X5 20182018 Honda Odyssey VS 2018 BMW X5

2018 Honda Odyssey:Advanced new powertrains, body and chassis: The 2018 Honda Odyssey will be powered by a 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC™ V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™). Peak engine output is 280 SAE net horsepower (+32 HP) and benefits from the advanced capabilities of its two available new transmissions — a 9-speed automatic and, for upper grades an all-new, Honda-developed 10-speed automatic, the first of its kind in a minivan, providing more confident and refined performance. These advanced new powertrains, together with a more rigid and lightweight body, new chassis technology, and Odyssey’s sleek and aerodynamic new design are expected to result in class-leading performance and top-in-class EPA fuel economy ratings. Honda’s Intelligent Traction Management system adds normal and snow modes and combines with Agile Handling Assist and a more powerful braking system for improved all-weather traction and control. Advanced new body and chassis: An all-new body and chassis design underpins the new Odyssey’s incredibly quiet cabin and class-leading steering precision, handling prowess and ride comfort. The Odyssey body utilizes advanced materials, including ultra-high-strength steel, aluminum and magnesium to simultaneously minimize weight and improve body rigidity. Vehicle weight is down by up to 96 pounds, depending on trim, and torsional body rigidity is up 44 percent from the outgoing model. New chassis features include a highly-responsive new Dual-Pinion Electric Power Steering (EPS) with .44 fewer turns lock-to-lock for increased response and easy maneuverability; and a compact new trailing arm rear suspension with stabilizer bar that not only enables improved handling and ride comfort, but also provides for the most spacious rear cargo area in the class…

2018 BMW X5:The 2018 BMW X5 is a popular luxury crossover SUV available with seating for up to seven. It’s a strong overall package, albeit one that lacks some of the BMW verve of yore. We’ve rated it a 7.2 out of 10 based on its excellent real-world usability, strong engines, and varied lineup. (Read more about how we rate cars.) The X5 changes little for 2018, other than a sport-tuned version of its automatic transmission is now standard on almost all versions, and the German automaker has shuffled option packages to act more like trim levels. That means that the popular Premium package—which you’re likely to find on just about every X5 stocked on a dealer lot—now acts as a gateway to most individual options. There’s less configurability, but little lacking in this lineup. The X5 remains available with 3.0-liter turbo-6 or 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 gas engines, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel, and a plug-in hybrid variant that costs a lot for its limited 14-mile electric-only range. Rear-wheel drive is standard with the base gas engine. All-wheel drive is optional on the base X5 and standard elsewhere. All models use 8-speed automatic transmissions. Despite its chunky looks, there’s not a lot of off-road ability here—not that most buyers are likely to go mud-plugging. An X5 M model tops the lineup with a 567-horsepower version of the X5’s available V-8. With its track-tuned suspension, sports seats, and beefed up steering, it’s a reasonable facsimile of a high-riding sports wagon. It’s as absurd as its six-figure price tag suggests, but it is a lot cheaper than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo. A roomy interior with great room for five adults awaits buyers. For those who want a little more space, a third row is optional, but it’s not great. For occasional use, the third row is acceptable for kids and may be worth considering for carpooling families…

2018 Honda Odyssey Release date, Redesign, Spy shots

The current generation Odyssey has received a small update back in 2014, and in the last year there have been numerous rumors about the appearance of a completely new generation of the shuttle family – 2018 Honda Odyssey.

And this is no accident – on public roads prototypes of the new minivan is fully tested. Recent spy photos shed light on the future design of the car, while the fact that under the hood, we can only guess.

2018 Honda Odyssey Release date

Initially it was assumed that the new generation Odyssey will debut as a 2017 model release, but this seems unlikely. This is due to the fact that automakers are usually pre-announce the emergence of a new model, a few months before the start of production. The new Odyssey is expected to be announced either at the beginning of 2017, as the MY 2017, or close to the middle of the same year, as 2018 mdoel year Honda Odyssey.

Release date: 2017

2018 Honda Odyssey Price

It is unlikely that the price of upcoming minivan will change significantly. However, it should be borne in mind that Honda may introduce a new, more simple modifications of the Odyssey, which will sell the car for less than $30,000. The appearance of a simple turbo engine instead of the V6 in the base trim level can provide a cost reduction.

2018 Honda Odyssey Redesign

Judging by the spy photos, the current Odyssey platform and 2018 one will remain the same in terms of size. But the look will be significantly revised. The minivan will have new front and rear lights that will remind those that are installed on the current-generation Accord. Radiator grille and bumper with fog lamps also undergo significant changes. In its concept Odyssey will remain the same family minivan with three rows of seats and sliding doors.

Details about the interiors are still unknown. We can assume that it will be significantly changed. Get a new front panel, steering wheel, seats, center tunnel and advanced infotainment system. The main hope – that the interior will be no less successful than the current generation.

In the top-end trim levels there will be full LED headlights and rear lights.

2018 Honda Odyssey Specs

For now, it is unclear what will happen under the hood of the new version. Most likely, the V6 engine will still be placed on the Odyssey, it will be slightly improved. Displacement will remain the same – 3.5 liters. Power output increases to 280 HP. Transmission will be borrowed from the crossover MDX – the same 9-speed automatic transmission.

The second option might be turbocharged 1.5-2.0 liter engine similar to the one that is set in the latest version of the Honda Civic. It will be available for entry-level trims.

To compete with the Chrysler Pacifica, namely with its hybrid version, Honda also equip its minivan a hybrid powertrain. This can be a classic hybrid, or Plug-in version with lithium-ion battery. It will be based on a compact turbo engine in combination with a powerful electric motor. This will provide sufficient performance on a par with excellent fuel efficiency.

Honda Odyssey 2018

  • В длину минивен – 5,15 м.;
  • Ширина новинки – 2,01 м.;

Advanced Compatibility Engineering.

Honda Odyssey 2018
